Online Career Course - It Starts With the Right School and Trickles Into Classes

With the advent of online career courses, you can now gain access to further education without leaving your current geographical location or country. Unlike traditional courses whereby you have to be in a physical classroom, online courses offer you the chance to gain knowledge and upgrade your skills without ever stepping into these physical classrooms. These courses are fast becoming popular because you can complete your course in just a matter of weeks unlike traditional courses, which may take several years for you to complete. Moreover, lessons take place in virtual classes, promoting more student participation.

An online career course is the stepping-stone to success in online jobs in the sense that the courses are tailor-made to suit specific job descriptions. For instance, if you would like a career in online marketing, there are courses, which will teach you on how to market your products or business online. Furthermore, you do not need to have prior experience in sales and marketing for you to take this course. In simpler terms, most online courses do not require any academic qualifications for you to be able to take them up. In addition, there are no age restrictions and this consequently encourages more student enrollment.

The most attractive aspect of taking an online career course is that the learning schedule is so flexible. You may take the course from anywhere and at anytime of the day, from the comfort of your home or office. There are no restrictions when it comes to dress codes and physical class attendance, for you may even take the course while in your pajamas! Furthermore, you do not have to take leave from work or quit your day job for you to take up these online courses. All you have to do is practice high levels of self-discipline and organization, for you to be successful. You should be in a position to balance between you day job and the online course.

The good thing about online career courses is that they are affordable. In comparison to traditional courses, their enrollment and training fees are relatively cheap. Most online schools offer a onetime sign up fee and an additional monthly fee, which they charge according to the duration for which you will be taking the course. You would be in for a surprise to note that some online schools even charge less than the price of a restaurant meal! Overly, the fee also depends on the type of course you are doing, for some courses may require you to be a lifetime member of a particular program or school, while others are onetime courses.

Selecting the best online career course depends on your career preferences and aspirations. However, most online schools give advice on the best course that may be appropriate for you depending on your skills and knowledge. Some schools may ask you short questions about your job preferences before advising you on the available career courses that matches your aspirations. Nevertheless, the online schools do not compromise your freedom of selection but rather give you a free hand to choose whichever course you would want to do.

The main advantage of taking an online career course from a reputable online school is that there are numerous options available. These schools have a wide array of courses available regardless of your career preferences. If you do not succeed in a particular course, you get the chance to take another one that may offer you good rewards. In addition, a good online school will provide you with all the necessary learning materials, tutorials, equipment and other tools. In some courses, you may even start applying the several techniques and strategies as soon as you receive them from the online school.

A good online career course should have the option of one on one online support. The fact that you will not be in a physical classroom does not mean that you cannot get the attention that you might require. Most online schools have advanced 24-hour online support for their students and members. Furthermore, you also get the opportunity to interact with other members who might help you to understand the course that you are undertaking, better.

When selecting an online career course, you should carry out a comprehensive research on the legitimacy of the online school offering the course. In the recent past, there has been a rise in the number of online frauds and scams. It is advisable that you also check on the accreditation and certification of the courses offered by the online schools.

If you are looking to build your business and make money online for years to come and are willing to put forth the effort to do so then you will find your home at WA University.

More Individuals Battling the Economy With Vocational Degree Programs From Online Universities

Unemployment figures across the country continue to spike, leaving many jobless individuals to find ways to enhance their qualifications to remain competitive in the thin job market. In today's economy, however, very few people can afford the time and money required to engage in a four-year degree program at a brick-and-mortar university, as they cannot afford to abandon their family and financial commitments.

As a result, many students and professionals are choosing to enroll in online courses to pursue vocational degrees. While there is no doubt higher education is the key to career development, the educational requirements of today's workforce are shifting.

As the cost of obtaining a bachelors degree through traditional means continues to rise, many individuals are choosing to enroll in vocational programs, which are one of the quickest methods to launching a career.

Kevin Fleming, director of the San Bernardino Community College's Center of Excellence, said that specified vocational degrees may be the key to a successful labor force.

"We need more people taking the right types of programs" as opposed to higher degree holders with little direction, he told the San Bernardino Sun.

Calling upon statistics from the Department of Labor, Fleming pointed out that the government expects 21 percent of jobs will require a bachelor's degree in 2016, while approximately 40 percent will be middle-skill opportunities that require vocational training.

To meet the projected demands of the American workforce, many online universities have begun offering training programs that are intended to prepare students for specific careers and attracted growing numbers of prospective employees.

Kaplan University, for example, reported that its enrollment increased by 28 percent this year, according to a recent article in the Desert Sun. Brian Mendenhall, the online school's director of admissions, told the newspaper he attributes this growth to the time commitment required of bachelors or master's degree programs and the inclusion of non-applicable classes in their curricula.

Kaplan currently offers vocational training for individuals wishing to become dental assistants, massage therapists, medical assistants, medical office specialists, medical practice managers, pharmacy technicians and criminal justice professionals. When concerned with financial aid look into government grants for your vocational training.

Looking For Online Education Tips?

As the computer age rolls on we are encountering more and more universities that are willing to invest in the education of pupils who may not necessarily be in a place to attend classes at that particular institution of higher education. The offerings are still somewhat restricted but there are chances to get associates, bachelors, and also master's degrees strictly through online course work. This is something that was practically extraordinary even a few years ago.

These days pupils truly do have more choices presented to them than ever before if they are disposed to put in the time and strength into their studies, there are few restrictions to the level of education you can receive, even if it has been years since you last went to a university or community college. Even those colleges and universities that do not present full fledged diploma programs wholly through online learning methods are beginning to offer majority of programs on the web for students with tiring schedules and lifestyles. This means that you now have the occasion to blend distance or online learning with a few night or weekend programs in order to end your degree even if you have a full time day employment and folks that needs to discuss with you at home on occasion.

With online classes it does not matter if you are in your pajamas or in a suit and tie you can still do the work you suppose to do on the internet and no one will be the wiser. You also might find that you can slot in your education into your lunch hour, especially if you can type and chew at the same time. The truth is that online classes offer better flexibility to those hoping to further their education. Whether you're eager to get hold of a diploma or simply desire to broaden your horizons by taking one or two online classes, you just might find that the potential are limitless once you commence taking these courses from your residence.

Even if a diploma is not something you are essentially seeking you might be amazed at the large array of programs that are presented for those enticed by enlarging their depth of awareness on different matters from the convenience of their own homes.

Online Business Degrees Offer a Wide Array of Options For Working Professionals

A business degree can lead to more career opportunities than you may realize. More working professionals are turning to online business degrees to enhance their current job skills, help them move into management, change career fields, or even start their own businesses.

Online business degrees are available in a broad variety of types and subject matter. The type of degree you pursue depends largely on your career goals and personal interests. Certificate programs can allow you to gain more expertise in a specific field in a short amount of time, enabling you to perform additional job duties and prepare for a specialized career path. Associate's degrees are useful for obtaining a broad knowledge base and preparing for entry-level positions in a wide variety of fields. Bachelor's degrees can provide you with more specialized knowledge, and Master's degrees can help you advance your career and move into management.

Whichever type of program you choose, you can find online business degrees that deal with a wide array of specialties. General degrees can provide you with a broad exposure to all the elements that allow a business to function smoothly. For more specialized programs, you can choose degrees in accounting, human resources, marketing, operations management, leadership, or any number of areas. Whichever area you choose, most online business degrees will provide you with leadership skills and the ability to solve problems and provide innovative solutions.

Certificate programs are short, specialized programs that can help you advance your career. They generally focus on very specific areas of business, such as e-commerce or project management. Choosing an online certificate program can allow you to quickly increase your value to your organization while working around your existing work and family obligations. If you are looking to gain more knowledge in a specific area pertaining to your current career, online business degrees in specialized certificate programs are an excellent choice.

Associate's degrees are great for those who want to expand their knowledge and gain a solid business foundation but are unable to commit to a full Bachelor's degree program, or are uncertain about which program to pursue. Associate's degrees can help you expand your career options and lay the groundwork for further education if you wish to pursue a more specialized degree in the future. Common online business degrees available as Associate's degrees are accounting, marketing, and general business administration. Degrees in accounting allow you to obtain a job as a bookkeeper, accounts payable or receivable clerk, or other entry-level accounting position. Associate's degrees in marketing provide a foundation for analyzing, planning, and implementing marketing campaigns targeted to a specific audience. Associate's degrees in business management can provide you with valuable skills to help you achieve your organization's goals, make managerial decisions, and motivate employees.

Bachelor's degrees are generally the minimum requirement for entry-level business career. Employees with Associate's degrees or with no higher education can easily pursue online business degrees while keeping their current job. In many cases, your employer will pay for online business degrees if they are directly related to your job duties and will add value to the organization. Bachelor's degrees in business can range from specialties such as human resources, operations management, and retail management.

A Master's degree is generally not required for career advancement, but could help you in a field where a broad knowledge base is required. The most popular type of Master's degree in business is the MBA: Master's of Business Administration. However, many programs offer online business degrees such as Master's in Human Resource Management, Master's in Professional Accounting, or Master's in Project Management.

Andy West is a writer on a variety of topics, including education. Online business degrees, particularly an online MBA, can really raise your earning potential in the business world.

Distance Learning - What You Need, What it Takes and What You Gain!

Distance learning convinced me a long time ago now. Certainly the subject is not new. After all, if people are already using video conferencing in their company for online meetings, why not for training? Actually it has already been more than 10 years since offers appeared for learning languages by phone. And there are lots of reasons to like distance learning. Here are a few of them:
  • You do it where you want
  • You do it when you want
  • You save the transportation time
  • There are no commodities issues and costs

Of course people would say it is always better to have a trainer next to you. But why? I still haven't found any reason. For the social aspect? Well by saving time on your training and making it more flexible you will actually gain time for other things like participating in social activities, seeing your friends etc.

And the truth is that, with the development of Internet technology, it just becomes better and easier. A good virtual classroom has exactly the tools that a tutor needs to teach online. Video and audio ensure communication, and the whiteboard works perfectly for collaboration.

Directly integrated in the whiteboard there is the possibility of displaying images, switching between different layers, even playing a video... all this on top of all the things you can naturally do with a normal blackboard: annotate, erase etc.

Moreover the session is easily recordable, and it needs no costly hardware. A simple computer with a headset and an internet connection is sufficient.

Despite all this, the use of the virtual classroom for training sessions is not yet totally popular. There are a few reasons for this, and we have noticed that just a few steps can help to remove the barriers.

1. People don't like change

People definitely don't like changes. Even if the virtual classroom brings them a lot of advantages, until they really notice it, it can be extremely difficult to convince them. Based on our experience, I would like to give two suggestions when the learners are not ready for this new step:

  • Make the first one or two appointments offline. We have noticed that the fact of building a relationship between the tutor and the learner before starting the online sessions greatly helps people who are not yet experienced with learning online
  • Use a tutor who is very familiar with online tools

2. Tutors are not used to these tools

A short experience has showed us that a big part of the problem comes from the tutor. Indeed who can imagine that a tutor who has never used a virtual classroom before can actually give a good lesson? Actually a virtual classroom does not take that long to learn. If the interface is intuitive, the tutor can easily start to know all the tools within one hour. Still the tutor needs to find his way around this new method.

Based on our experience, a tutor needs between 5 and 10 hours of online tutoring to start to be totally efficient with the tool. Therefore, a proper training method should be defined. The appropriate time budget should be allocated so that the tutor gets trained in a real session.

3. Technical problems

Technical problems are another barrier for distance training. If the user has to download software, install it, solve problems, he will not easily accept facing the change and the necessity of taking up this new habit.
Our tip: choose a web-based virtual classroom where there is absolutely no software to install. Relying on massive spread plugins like Java or Flash will definitely reduce the problem and maximize compatibility.

Finally if you face a technical problem because of infrastructure (poor internet connection) or because the people don't really know how to use a computer, try using the phone for communication at the beginning, combined with the whiteboard.

What is sure is that after a few hours, tutors and learners will both enjoy this flexible new way of teaching / learning a lot. It is worth it!

Our company has developed a complete learning management system which integrates a web-based virtual classroom. Using the virtual classroom it is possible to give 1 on 1 or 1 on many training sessions, and our platform allows the trainers to easily complete the live training by exercises and content that they or the school create, allowing a great blended learning offer.

Online Degrees - What Online College is the Best?

If you've been thinking about getting an online degree you may be wondering what online college is the best. I'm asked this question often. There are many variables to consider however.

You probably know that a traditional, well-known school with a campus, such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford and others, is going to have a better reputation. However, the cost of attending these schools is prohibitive for many, besides having to go through the acceptance process.

But there are many other schools that have excellent reputations that are worthy of attending or taking classes from online. There are also vocational and traditional schools that are limited to online degree programs only.

The program and major you plan to pursue and whether you want an associate's, bachelor's, master's degree or doctorate will greatly influence which online school you decide on.

Online colleges and online degree programs are becoming more and more popular and are more and more accepted by employers, much more so than they used to be. Many of the largest companies in the U.S. readily accept applicants with online degrees, especially from accredited online colleges.

Technology is also gaining and improving every year so you have better access to your professors and to other students as well.

You want to avoid schools with unrecognizable names that offer promises of quick diplomas or degrees. These are called diploma mills and they're still operating. Some of these schools report that you can get your bachelor's degree in 72 hours. You don't want to present this kind of degree to a prospective employer. It will work against you.

Recently in our community, I read that it was discovered that three state (highway) patrol officers had online degrees from diploma mills and were fired.

Staying with a recognizable name school and checking to make sure they are accredited is very important. You can check through the Council of Higher Education Accreditation to make sure they are accredited.

If you're unfamiliar with the school here are a few questions you can ask of any online college or school that you're considering. What is the acceptance rate, can they help with financial aid, what is the retention and graduation rate and what is the number of years the school has had accreditation. You also want to make sure that any school you transfer into later will accept your credits. Know this before you sign up.

What online college is best is going to depend on your needs, as there are many variables. Your location, how much money it will cost, whether you're on a budget or have plenty of money to spend on an online degree or do you want to get to go free or cheap? It will also depend on the program you choose and how specialized it is.

There is plenty of federal financial aid and other money available for online degree programs so you may want to check this out. There are also grants and scholarships available for online students and many go unawarded every year. There are many scholarships available in specialized areas too. Some students go free. Just take a little time to do some research and you can save a lot of money.

Second Language Taught Through Distance Education

Getting your child the best education possible is an important goal for many parents. Taking advantage of recent technological advances can give your child the opportunity of a lifetime. With distance education, children are opening gateways to corners of the globe they would have never experienced in the past.

Another fact to keep in mind is that because of the demanding schedules of individuals wishing or needing to pursue degrees at their own convenience or without relocation, distance education has evolved into many different forms. One of these is of course the online course. You can actually enter a full two year program right from your desk at home. You can complete all the required courses and assignments and receive an accredited certificate for your education. Many professors host classes in a chat room setting so that anyone that wants to answer or ask questions can do so instantly. Homework can be emailed or uploaded onto the class website.

In addition, distance learning is often more affordable than a traditional education. For parents that can't leave their home to employees who need to make money, you can still receive an education. Choose a program that works with your budget and your schedule to take the next step towards the career you want.

In particular learning a language is the best to do through distance learning. Instead of limiting your child's education to a classroom taught by a professor whose native language is also probably English, you can give your child the chance to experience the language from a professor that lives the language and speaks it naturally and fluently. Have your student speak to other students via the monitors and voice transmitters. Allow you children to talk to people who can teach the language in a more unique and meaningful setting.

Distance learning is within everyone's budget. Some libraries offer this type of education for free or for a nominal fee. Many school are now placing distance learning into their regular curriculum. There are even extra curricular activities for your children to partake in from programs offered online and to your home computer. Depending on your schedule and budget you can have your child speaking to a Chinese speaking professor about the grammar in their language or taking singing Spanish lessons from a teacher in Venezuela.

E-learning Solutions - Getting Past the Difficulties to Deliver a Better Learning Experience

In many instances involving learning scenarios, many learners do not reap the full benefits of the learning experience due to a number of reasons. Since virtually everyone is unique in their own way, all possessing specific preferences and peculiarities that could very well be exclusive to them respectively, presenting instructors, trainers, and teachers with the unenviable task of formulating a teaching strategy that will take into account their unique attributes and allow them to learn fully. Without going so much into the details of teaching, this task may be viewed by some as a virtual impossibility, and that may very well be true, since it is a known fact that no two people are ever alike in the world, not even identical twins. This fact therefore necessitates that educators, trainers, and learning experts must design their learning modules to accommodate varying learning rates, within acceptable parameters, as well as certain learning material, and treat specific areas of contention, such as possible appropriateness and religion-related issues, with temperance and the underlying note that all subject material and learning activities have been included in the learning module all for the purposes of providing the needed lessons, and not for anything else. Normally such considerations are subject to much debate and deliberations from within the faculty or from within the management of the learning institution. Those using a learning management system, however, can work around this by completely customizing all subject matter and curtailing them for appropriateness and learner need, thus providing an even more effective learning experience.

There will always inevitably certain learners who have a particular dislike for approaching the instructor to verify certain aspects of the learning module, and a failure to do will, of course, result in a lesson being incorrectly learned, or an incomplete understanding of the material, which is often the case. There are always certain aspects of lessons that will need a closer and more finite analysis than is typically done by those learning it, hence, the role of an instructor able to aid the learner in dissecting this matter and learning it further is quite crucial, although the entire point of having an instructor is quite moot if the learner themselves fail or inhibit themselves from approaching the instructor and asking the needed information. This is why in an instance like this, the benefit of an e-learning solution is quite obvious. Certain learning programs that incorporate e-learning tools may have a noticeable absence of an instructor, but this fact will not deter the learner from pursuing a particular aspect of the learning module that may not have been altogether that clear when it was taken up. Being segmented into easily manageable modules, a learning management system can facilitate "zooming in" on a particular area of difficulty and providing better and more in-depth information and materials on it, to facilitate better understanding and therefore complete the learning experience. The fact that there is no apparent "intimidating" presence of an instructor, certain learners may feel quite secure in pursuing further something which may have been an area of difficulty for them, and having the appropriate tools to allow them to analyze the matter better affords them the initiative to actually look up the area of difficulty and deal with it themselves at their own pace and not be embarrassed by the fact that they are stalled by a perceived difficulty.

A computer graduate and loves to travel. Reading current news in the internet is one of his past times. Taking pictures of the things around him fully satisfies him. He loves to play badminton and his favorite pets are cats and walk with them in the park with some dogs.

Online Education Accreditations - Be Informed

Online education is a relatively new form of education that utilizes modern technology in a way to provide better access to more people. However, thorough research on a program is a must to decide whether the diploma fits your needs.

Even if a specific online education program (any education program for that matter) claims to be "accredited", that is not enough. It is crucial to know whether the University/College is regionally accredited or nationally accredited.

Do not be deceived with how the words 'regional' or 'national' sounds.

Regional accreditation is the highest level within academic establishment that any college or university can receive. For example, all of the University of California branches are all regionally accredited. If you receive a diploma from regionally accredited institutions, and if you want to continue your studies or pursue a Masters at a different college/university, it means that the course/class credit that you have taken transfers over to other universities and colleges. Transferable course credit saves much time and money as you are not required to take beginning courses all over again.

If for example you received an bachelor's degree from a nationally accredited program and want to pursue a master's at a regionally accredited college, you may not qualify as the course credits may not transfer from nationally accredited to regionally accredited schools.

To summarize, regional credits are most likely to transfer well to anywhere. But national credits may not transfer well to regional accredited schools.

However, if one is concerned about the legitimacy a diploma has in the eyes of potential employers, it has been said that some employers (depending on the field) do not know the difference between national and regional as long as they see that the diploma is accredited.

To find out whether an online program is regionally or nationally accredited, information should be available on the program's web site. If not, do a quick web search with the program name and the words "regional accredited". Another way would be to contact the program's office and ask.

When in doubt, choose online education classes from already established Universities or Community College. Always do research about the program you want to go into and make sure it delivers exactly what you need for the long term.

The Best Online Degree Programs and How to Find Them

There are a few important things to look for when seeking a degree online.

Look For Regionally Accredited Universities - Regional accreditation is the most important accreditation a school can have. Make sure the school you are considering has that before you commit.

Check With a List of "Degree Mills" or Online Schools Under Investigation - There are lists online of online schools who are under investigation or have already been known to be fraudulent "degree mill" type schools. Check with this list before you decide on a school.

Avoid The Schools That Can't Get Federal Financial Aid - When a school lacks the ability to offer federal financial aid, its usually because they lack the right accreditation to do it. Costs for you will be higher if you have to finance your education with private loans.

Read Reviews About the School - There are many reviews online by students of online schools. Check those out before you commit and see what former students have to say.

Find Out The Way Classes Are Taught - When you read reviews see what people say about the format classes are taught. You can also call the school to find this out. Some online classes are completely at your own pace and others have deadlines. Some classes are offered at a certain time and place online. Others require you to work online with other students in group activities. Depending on your particular learning style, you might want to find out what format your prospective classes will be before you decide on a school.

See my list of Recommended Universities With Online Degrees.

All of the schools I have listed are "brick and mortar" schools and universities with solid reputations. They all have both on-campus and off-campus students. Visit http://www.gradwise.org for more information.

Single Parents Earning College Degrees Online

Getting an education is one of the most important values we learn in this age. Not only is a college degree reputable socially, but economically. With a degree you can get a better paying job and likely live comfortably with less stress. Many single parents are thinking of going back to school, but most don't have the time to dedicate to the school life. Making time for work, children and getting to campus can be almost impossible and definitely discouraging. With a college degree online, you have the convenience of studying at home.

How to Enroll in College Degree Online

The process of enrolling in a college online is quite simple. Many colleges offer a link to an application page where you can fill out your information. Once this is completed, you'll speak with a school representative about the course you've picked and answer questions you may have. It is best to speak with the admissions department before enrolling to ensure that it is the right online degree for you. Most college websites allow you to view the course catalogs to see exactly what you'll be learning and what books you'll need.

It is important to take a look at the requirements for the online degree programs offered by the colleges. You want to ensure that your internet and computer specs meet the minimum requirements (hard drive space, internet speed, computer memory ram, resolution and sometimes certain software). Studying online means logging into a website and using their interface, so you'll want to make sure that your educational experience is the best possible.

Benefits of Online Degree

Besides the ability to study from home, getting an online degree is beneficial in many ways. It's convenient and sometimes much more affordable. More colleges are offering e-books instead of text books, so this is less money that you'll have to spend. E-books are a lot cheaper than text books and sometimes the rates for the e-books are included in your tuition.

Since there are more and more single parents enrolling in a college degree online, there are scholarships and financial aid specifically for single parents, which mean more money for your education. There's really no reason why single parents shouldn't attend an online degree program. If you've had your eye on a specific school, but live too far from its physical campus, check to see if they offer online degrees.

Speak with different schools to see if they offer a degree program that you're looking to enter into. Soon you could be on your way to getting a higher education to better take care of you and your family.

Online Education Programs - 4 Ways They Can Benefit You

These times are as troubled as we've seen them in decades. Businesses are closing. Companies are declaring bankruptcy. The unemployment numbers are growing more dismal by the month. People are struggling to make ends meet. Very few people are surviving unscathed.

This is precisely why it's a good time to further your education. Whether you still need to get your high school diploma or you want to develop new skills in order to access a better-paying job, you'll find online learning to be a convenient and effective avenue for your education.

Here are some of the advantages for your consideration:

1) Education On Your Time. Life is hectic. There's always more to do than time to do it. Squeezing lessons and classes into the equation only makes things worse. Fortunately, online education is designed to fit your schedule, not the other way around. When you choose to take your classes is largely up to you. Twenty minutes during your lunch break. Fifteen minutes while waiting for your kids to get out of their karate lessons. Thirty minutes after everyone has gone off to bed. Whichever times are most convenient for you.

2) No Travel Time. No one enjoys being on the freeway, moving ten miles an hour in bumper-to-bumper traffic, worrying about being late to your class. It's frustrating. It's time-consuming. It's stressful. Online education eliminates the travel. You can study in the comfort of your home, never having to leave the house. You study and learn at your convenience, not someone else's convenience.

3) Money Saving. Online education classes are generally more reasonably priced. They save you in ways that you might not even realize at first glance. Not having to travel saves you gas money. Since you're learning at home, you save on childcare and babysitting expenses. There's no need to squeeze in a fast food meal between work and class, so you save on those expenses. Even if you're in a position where you can't afford a computer or Internet access, you can save money by using a computer at your local library. Almost every library has Internet access these days.

4) Personal Attention. In a traditional classroom it's easy to get lost. The instructor has a full curriculum to teach, and his or her life is most likely just as hectic as yours. It's no unusual to go through a semester of learning and never once have the opportunity to talk to your teacher. The online classroom makes access to your professor much easier. Communication by email is convenient for both parties. In addition, with technology rapidly changing, some classes are presented as webinars which allow you to ask questions directly. These new avenues of communicating make it much easier to get the personal attention you need to create the best educational experience.

Not every educational need can be addressed through online learning, but a growing number of them can be. This is a trend that should continue to grow in the future as well, as education adapts to the student instead of forcing the student to adapt to the education. So before you sign up for your local community college classes or even your state college classes, check to see what they have available online first. And if you can't find what you need, check to see if you can advance your education with a dedicated online learning program.

Online Education Courses Are Up and Coming

Are you interested in continuing your education? If so, then online education courses could be the choice for you, especially if you're currently working full time, or you have limited time available due to other personal commitments. Maybe you have a disability which eliminates your ability to attend traditional campus courses.

If you're stuck with one of the above listed situations, online courses may in fact be the perfect opportunity to achieve your educational goals. Many people that live with such personal restrictions are taking advantage of these programs due to the overall convenience of the process, and the lower cost as compared to traditional educational costs.

Are the courses and degrees offered online recognized and rated as highly as traditional on campus documents of completion? Probably not at this current moment in time, but as the poor economy continues to negatively effect more and more potential students ability to afford the costs of attending traditional online college campuses, the online educational degrees will become much more recognized and accepted.

These days, unless you're applying for a high level management or highly skilled position , most hiring managers only want to ensure that you have sufficient training and experience in their particular field of work. Many online courses can provide such training and access to live workshops if necessary to obtain actual hands on experience to master certain skills.

The courses can allow you to obtain the Diploma or Degree required to apply for certain jobs, as well as the ability to answer the appropriate questions during the interview process. That's basically all that's needed to get most jobs providing the applicant dresses to empress, and presents Him or Herself well enough during the interview(s).

It's a well known fact that most hiring Managers don't do much of an educational background check, but the good news is, if they do the check, you will have obtained the credentials legally. They may not be exactly what the employer was looking for, but you paid, studied, and legally obtained the credentials, and you may very well get the job based on those facts alone.

The most important thing to understand is you can learn online, and legally obtain qualifying credentials for your studies. How you choose to utilize those credentials, is totally up to you.

Online Continuing Education Keeps Teachers Current

The rapid pace of technological and social change affects not only social institutions, but the professions of the populace as well. Throughout the 20th century, all sorts of professionals used every available means - reading journals, attending seminars, taking correspondence courses - to stay abreast of progress in their professions. For the teacher, as well, the Continuing Education Unit (CEU), now available through online courses, represents the attainment of state-of-the-art skills.

For the most part, public school teachers in the "K-12" (kindergarten through 12th grade) classrooms leave it a few chosen representatives to battle with politicians, school boards and budgets. Most of them give their full attention to their students, since there are many educators who really do consider what they do a calling, or a cause, as much as a career. The availability of online colleges with courses that earn the Continuing Education Unit is, for a teacher, a great time-saver as well as a way to be more effective in the classroom.

New specialties = new opportunities

In addition to perfecting skills they already possess, Internet training and education can give a teacher a path to new specialties that, in turn, afford them new opportunities in their profession. The continuing education unit, then, also represents change and progress for the teacher who is motivated to go online and work toward a new or upgraded credential, perhaps in an entirely new discipline.

Many special education teachers start out in regular classrooms, according to the National Education Association, and then decide to specialize. Depending on precisely what they want to teach, they may then be required to meet a "state standard of evaluation covering multiple subjects, not later than two years after the date of employment." Obviously, to get the training and testing done within this timeframe makes the online continuing education unit a very good choice for a teacher with a busy schedule.

Clearly, online colleges and training programs are not just making money for their owners, but providing a real public service to some of the most motivated public servants - teachers. For a teacher dedicated to his or her profession, going online to earn just the kind of continuing education unit needed for career advancement or specialization is both convenient and socially beneficial.

Online Degrees Are Avoided by Serious Students

Although members of the media and some academicians have been saying that online instruction is the wave of the future, one simple fact remains: More than a few online schools provide a second-rate education and diplomas from online institutions are essentially trash.

Until the summer of 2006, I was associated with a university that maintained a large online division in northern Virginia plus 43 satellite campuses in 10 southeastern states and the District of Columbia. For approximately five years I taught online business courses in both synchronous and asynchronous modes. To my chagrin, I discovered the following:

• The school has no library to speak of. It maintains various "Learning Resource Centers" that collectively have 32,000 volumes or about one book for each of the estimated 27,000 students who study online or at satellite campuses. Indiana University's library system, in contrast, has 8.2 million volumes.

• Quizzes and exams are online, open-book and unproctored. Online students routinely enlist others to help them at exam time.

• There is pressure on instructors to give high grades and thereby maintain full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment numbers. Instructors who have the temerity to give grades of C or D are called in for counseling.

• Online students never meet or have direct contact with instructors.

• The school has an open-enrollment policy which encourages unqualified or marginally qualified applicants. Nevertheless, approximately one-third of all students graduate with "honors."

Incredibly, this institution is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) . However, its business education program is not accredited by AACSB, and its MPA program is not accredited by NASPAA. Attend this or other online colleges at your peril.

Will the New Crop of Fake Degree Scams Deter Students From Online Education?

Online education experts at degreeboard.com warned against a new type of fake degree scams today. The supposed new type of degree fakery goes far beyond the diplomas for purchase that have been available from non-existent and unaccredited colleges for years, and now means that anyone can purchase a fake degree from such respected institutions as Florida State University. So how will these fakers and frauds affect the future of online education? And what can be done to stop them?

It seems that one of the reasons diploma mills and degree scams are on the social consciousness currently is very much due to the current economic climate, and its effects on distance learning and online education. Essentially, lack of jobs and increasing redundancies stimulate increasing numbers of people to head back to education, and taking up an adult education course via distance learning or online is a very economical and accessible way to do that today. And, indeed, reports of increasing online enrollment are already being heard in the US and the UK.

Realistically however, such fraudsters have been around for many years and aside from penile extensions and cut-rate Viagra, fake degrees are one of the original and obligatory types of spam e-mail. That said, it is also wrong to assume that the scammers are not indeed getting better at offering more and more legitimate-looking qualifications to the point of committing outright fraud.

Subsequently, in terms of maintaining the social faith in online education and distance learning, the public need to be 100 percent clear that using a fake degree or qualification is fraud. An action that might be surprisingly more difficult when one considers that the selling of fake academic credentials is illegal only in 11 states in the USA (according to degreeboard.com). Maybe if such sellers are brought into line elsewhere across North America we might see the first steps for spreading this knowledge, and at least halting the blight of scammers, at least if they can't be stopped altogether.

But, then, I suppose one must ask why must the USA should be the focus of a nationwide ban on such activities? For me, the answer lies in the apparent fact that the rest of the world, particularly the UK, are following the advancements the US are making in online education, e-Learning, and open content - and particularly the way it is regarded socially and publicly. Thus, the betterment of higher education globally (and the systems therein) currently seems to be directly influenced by the modes and methods that are established stateside.

5 Mistakes Most Online Learners Make

Distance learning programs are common these days for people to expand and in depth their knowledge through the convenient of internet technology. The key advantages that benefits most online learners are flexible schedule and remote learning environment. However, navigating the distance learning world can be tricky, not all online learners will success in their distance learning. If you choose to experience your journey as an online student, avoid these 5 common mistakes make by most online learners and save yourself some hassle.

Mistake #1: Choose the wrong online school

Not all online schools are running by legitimate education association. If you accidentally enroll into a distance learning program offered by diploma mill, then the certification you earned from the school will be worthless. Therefore, selecting a right online school is the most important step and you must put special attention on when searching for your favorite distance learning program. Before you enroll in the program of your selected online school, make sure it has the appropriate regional accreditation, which is the key indicator that distinguishes between legitimate and "fake" online schools.

Mistake #2: Lack of self-discipline & self-motivation

Self-discipline and self-motivation are key factors if an online learner wants to successfully complete their distance learning program. Nobody will look at their back to get their work done; the students need to have self-discipline and be able to motivate themselves to get through the learning process and complete the necessary assignments and courses in order to complete the distance learning program. However, many online learners lack of these 2 important elements that make them tend to drop their study half way.

In order to discipline and motivate themselves, many students have found it beneficial to set their goal with a deadline to complete a distance learning program and from there they split their final goal into smaller monthly, weekly, and daily goals that will allow them to achieve their goal at that deadline.

Mistake #3: Failing in communication with professors and peers

Many online learners think that study online mean study at their own. This is partly true because most online learning environments are asynchronous where students logon at their own time to get the learning materials and submit their coursework. But, this virtual learning environment does involve other online learners where you can form some meaningful relationships with your peers that can keep you motivated and have an outlet to express and exchange opinions or ideas to help your own understanding of subject matter. Moreover, keeping close relationship with your professors will definitely make your online learning easier.

Mistake #4: Not transferring credit

This is a common mistake made by those distance learners who assume the credit from campus-based school cannot be transferred to distance learning program. In fact, online schools and campus-based school's credits are transferrable if your credits from previous school meet the credit transfer requirement of your current online school. With the necessary credit transfer, you can waive certain subjects and save some credit hours to enable you to complete your distance learning in a short time.

Mistake #5: Remaining Ignorant of online resources

There are a lot of online materials available on Internet which can help online learners to find reference, information and help they need. However, many distance learners tend to use only online resources available at their online learning system, and ignore about other online resources such as virtual dictionaries, research help and online books which are related to their specialized subject matter on Internet. The best thing about online resources on Internet is most of them are free. By finding these sites to get the necessary references that are required for your distance learning, you can save money to buy books.
